This project is an investigative activity designed to connect senior secondary school students with business leaders to increase their knowledge of a local business, and enhance career planning skills. This project aims to develop transferrable interview and networking skills that students can apply when entering the job market.
Student and Teacher handbooks are available to aid in the classroom framing the interview.
The program consists of pairs of students attending a local business to interview a member of the senior management team about the organisation. Students are required to prepare for the interview by investigating the business and the industry they will be attending and customising the interview questions provided.
Following the interview, the students are required to develop a written report and presentation. Each pair will present their report to the rest of the class as a valuable way of share the information learnt. These presentations can also be a great way of involving the interviewees by inviting them to take part in the presentations.
Previous Program participants include Parade College, Preston Girls, Reservoir High, Academy of Mary Immaculate, John Fawkner SC and Antonine College.
Partnerships with the local businesses engaged in the program are a potential outcome of the program. Ongoing relationships could provide opportunities for a VCE Business studies component, work experience and opportunities for students to maintain an open channel to discuss real world business theories and practices.
